Here you may post messages or questions pertaining to the keeping and care of these animals. Hamsters make great pets provided that they are properly supervised when being handled.

Although hamsters are nocturnal, they may adjust their schedule some to interact with their owner. However, do not expect them to be all bright-eyed and eager to play in the middle of the afternoon—even hamsters have to put their foot down sometimes!

Of the 16 species of hamsters, five are the most common—Chinese mouselike, Dwarf Campbells Russian, Roborovski dwarf, Siberian, and Syrian (golden) hamsters. However, most hamster species have expandable cheek pouches that can hold food or bedding. They have large teeth that are always growing. The animals need to gnaw to prevent overgrowing of their teeth.
